Taylor Greene slammed for cryptic post after Pope Francis’ death

Outrage quickly spread online, with users calling the comment “disgusting,” “un-Christian,” and “deeply disrespectful.” One critic wrote, “Marjorie, what kind of Christian dances on a man’s grave and calls it God’s will?”
U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is facing fierce backlash after posting a cryptic and controversial message on social media shortly after the death of Pope Francis.
The Pope, who passed away at age 88 due to a stroke and heart failure on April 21, 2025, was a globally respected religious leader known for his progressive views.
Just hours after the Vatican confirmed his death, Greene took to X, writing: "Today, there were major shifts in global leadership. Evil is being defeated by the hand of God."
While she did not mention the Pope by name, the timing and tone of the post led many to believe she was referring to him—and celebrating his death.
Outrage quickly spread online, with users calling the comment "disgusting," "un-Christian," and "deeply disrespectful."
One critic wrote, "Marjorie, what kind of Christian dances on a man’s grave and calls it God’s will?"
Others noted that her reference to "global leadership shifts" might have also included Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, who stepped down from his role on the same day.
Still, the overwhelming interpretation focused on the Pope, particularly given Greene’s history of criticizing the Catholic Church.
Greene, who was raised Catholic but now identifies as an evangelical Protestant, has previously accused the Catholic Church of enabling abuse and supporting policies she opposes, such as immigrant rights.
In 2022, she controversially claimed that "Satan is controlling the church."
Pope Francis was a polarizing figure among American conservatives, known for championing causes like climate action, social justice, and compassion for migrants.
Despite ideological differences, former President Donald Trump expressed condolences and confirmed plans to attend the Pope’s funeral.
As of now, Greene has not responded to the public outcry or clarified the intent behind her post.
